Relish @ Bangsar Baru

23 January 2008 by That I Am
NOTE: This posting dated 08 July 2007 was moved from my previous blog (makanminusmeat.blogspot.com).

Been wanting to check out Relish ever since I heard about their vegetarian burgers (4 types to choose from), but the thought of having to drive all the way down to town …

Well, now I don’t have an excuse anymore since Relish has opened a new branch right next to the Brabus showroom in Bangsar Baru (opposite Bangsar Village 1). It’s a bright and breezy place where you can grab a bite while ogling the sleek luxury cars parked in the showroom next door.

Veggie Burger @ Relish

Tried the Veggie Burger (RM18++ for a medium serving), which is actually half a pita pocket stuffed with lightly sauteed bell peppers, mini portobello mushrooms, eggplant and lollo rossa lettuce, topped with carmelised onions and home made pesto. Two slices of fresh tomato on the side complete the dish.

The carmelised onions were nice and sweet, contrasting well with the savoury veggies. My only complaint is that there wasn’t enough pita bread to go with all that stuffing. Although not a “real” burger, this is a deliciously light meatless option that leaves ample room for dessert.

Apple Pie @ Relish

And it was a good thing too, because the slice of Apple Pie (RM18++) that arrived was huge! Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, the pie’s cinnamon-laced chunky apple and raisin filling was dry, unlike most other apple pie fillings that have a slightly runny consistency. It was a yummy treat, but the shortcrust pastry was a bit too sweet for my liking.

Service was very friendly, discreet and prompt — just the way it should be. :)

Would I go back? Definitely!

Meatless Meals

22 January 2008 by That I Am

Having turned vegetarian dropped meat from my diet about 18 months ago, I’ve been scouring the Net for places in the Klang Valley that offer meatless meals. Suffice to say, it’s been “slim pickings” so far (pardon the pun!).

While there may be food-themed blogs aplenty, it’s quite hard to come by one that focuses solely on vegetarian meatless/meat-free (not vegan, mind you) options. This is my humble attempt at creating an online listing of places that are “veggie foodie friendly”, together with reviews of selected dishes from each outlet.

Here’s hoping that this blog will allow fellow vegetarians non-meat-eaters out there to expand their dining choices … And also tempt non-vegetarians meat-eaters into trying out these delicious meat-free dishes!

Happy Eating!

NOTE: While I do not consume meat (beef, chicken, pork, mutton, lamb, etc), I am not a “pure” vegetarian/vegan. I avoid dairy products whenever possible, but I do eat eggs and a small amount of fish once in a while. As such, the restaurants featured here are not necessarily ”pure” vegetarian/vegan outlets, i.e. the dishes reviewed here may contain garlic, onoins, eggs, etc or might have been prepared with utensils that have come into contact with these foods. Please do check with the management/proprietors of each outlet for further information and clarification on the suitability of the dishes featured in relation to your dietary preferences.
